In the exhibition “Structures” Luce (Edmunds Lūcis) focuses on understanding human values of humanity and questions about identity characteristics. Nowadays the various national, political, economic, territorial and other conflicts are going on in the world global arena. States unite and enter into different types of organizations and unions. Because of it dispute arouses not only in the historical, but also at the present and future context. What happens with revaluation of the different situations?
The matter of identity of variable structure is an integral part of this process. This exhibition highlights the risks and problems that can be associated with the identity discourse and the mutable nature of many interacting processes. Events by itself are carrying out the historically determinated process and reflecting their contiguity to the environment. What happens if the new information is discovered about the past, how it affects the present and future understanding. The abundance of information, which in a sense evokes putting masks of indifference and neutrality, causes the appearence of immune watchers, who do not become actors and remain unresponsive to the actuall problems. There is an option "for the imposition of new skin" ("New Skin"), through which they receive neither rational nor emotional impulses or signals. Identity are forming on the choices made – adaptation, degradation, overlapping, "coat changing". These are the questions that get into the attention of the solo exhibition.
Artist finds old, rough burlap bags, ragged and transparent films (membranes), plywood pieces, sheet metal and other plastic materials, both in the direct and the processed form (molten glue, burned film, membrane) is then used to create artwork. These materials, adapted to the artist's creative expression, have different kinds of shapes and structures that simultaneously reflects the artist's beliefs and attitude towards modern society indecision and consumer culture phenomenon.
The choice of materials not only serve as tool for visual representations, which harsh aesthetics the artist emphasizes, but it breaks the traditional understanding of the two-dimensional plane, as well as blurring the border line between the two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork perception and provides the possibility of a wider perception.
Matted, transparent, clear, monolithic or perforated film (membrane) appears as rather acute conducted observation of social climate and relationship characteristic. How crystal clear and transparent or, on the contrary, damaged is the occurrence of political, social, economic processes? The society is presented as a matter that are changing and evolving through the different impact factors.
